Frequently asked questions
Is WP Octo an alternative to InfiniteWP?
Yes. WP Octo covers the core — updates, backups, restores and one-click login — and adds scheduled update rounds with a backup first, a visual check and automatic rollback. You do not have to host a server of your own, and security and uptime are included without third-party services.
What is the main difference?
The set-up. InfiniteWP is a panel you host yourself, with add-ons and connections to other services for uptime, security and 2FA. WP Octo is a service you do not have to maintain, built around clients with their own maintenance package and security that runs on the site itself.
Can I switch from InfiniteWP?
Yes. You install the WP Octo plugin on your sites and connect them to your workspace; no CLI or migration of your sites is needed. Importing sites in one go from a list is coming soon.
WP Octo or InfiniteWP: which WordPress management tool fits your agency?
InfiniteWP is a self-hosted management panel: you install it on a server of your own with PHP and MySQL, and every site runs the InfiniteWP Client plugin. The core is free and covers one-click updates, making and restoring backups, and logging in to your sites. For more you buy a plan by number of sites, which includes every add-on: scheduled backups, cloud storage, client reports, white label, user management and more. Uptime, malware scans and 2FA run through services such as UptimeRobot, Sucuri, Wordfence and Duo. WP Octo is a European platform you do not have to host, for WordPress agencies, freelancers and hosting companies, with the emphasis on reliable maintenance on any hosting, clients with their own maintenance package and modules that run on the site itself.
Updates and backups
InfiniteWP updates plugins, themes and WordPress itself in one click and lets you hide updates you do not want. It has no backup beforehand, visual check or automatic rollback; if you want to test first, you use the staging add-on. WP Octo runs updates in scheduled rounds, including translations and the database updates of plugins such as WooCommerce, puts the site in maintenance mode while it does, backs up what is being updated first, compares the site visually and rolls a plugin that breaks the site back automatically. WP Octo makes backups from hourly to monthly, incrementally, on the site, externally or in both places. InfiniteWP makes full backups, with scheduling and cloud storage as add-ons.
Security and modules on the site
With InfiniteWP, security mostly comes from connections: vulnerabilities through an add-on, malware scans through Sucuri or Wordfence, and 2FA for the panel through Duo. WP Octo brings security to the site itself: vulnerabilities, limiting login attempts, a custom login URL, a password policy, 2FA, shorter administrator sessions, security headers, changed-file detection and bot protection on forms, without a captcha. Modules such as a cookie banner with recorded consent, statistics without cookies and a mail log also run on the site, on or off per site or per package. Where InfiniteWP is strong: cloning and staging, sending posts and files to several sites, and downloading a full backup.
Hosting it yourself or not, and your data in the EU
With InfiniteWP you need a server of your own for the panel, and you keep it up to date yourself. WP Octo runs as a service: you install only the plugin on your sites. It is built for shared hosting without SSH or WP-CLI, works in small steps within 30 seconds and 128 MB, and the site contacts the platform itself, so its data stays current when a firewall refuses requests from outside. Your data is stored with Hetzner in Germany and Finland. For agencies WP Octo records clients, maintenance packages, team roles and your own logo and brand colour; for hosting companies there are a WHMCS module and a public API. Moving over from InfiniteWP needs no migration of your sites: you install the WP Octo plugin and connect the site.
